  • Poke Her Face??
By I Am Kane on April 24th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Would ya? Even if she is a tad nuts? Well regardless Cudi , Kanye and common have. Teaming up on this little number for a take on Lady Gaga’s Poker Face. Well the title says it all really…. Featuring cuts from A Trak , 2 superb verse’s from Cudi and Common, and the best verse from Kanye ive heard in a while. Been enjoying the vibe on this one all week. Surprisingly i found the sample from Gaga quite enjoyable , apparently they sampled her from a live recording and to be honest she sounds quite dope on it !!

  • Intelligent Hoodlum Vol Two – Love Dilla
    By Jenai on April 9th, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Are you an Intelligent Hoodlum? What is an Intelligent Hoodlum? Well… its an individual who unlike many of the new artists around, (to mention a few such as Soulja Boy, lil Hurricane and even up and coming Charles Hamilton) appreciate and honor the past to create and evolve the future. Too many of the new generation of producers and artists these days in most genres but especially Hip Hop do not do their history and bow down to the creators of the very genre itself. You cant become a Doctor, Scientist, Director or Pilot for example without doing your history so why is music different and why does this new generation feel they can put down and slew their predecessors?

Well consider yourself partially educated and with this edition of Vol Two you are very much in presence of a master at work in the form of J.Dilla. If you have no idea who he is or what he represents then this is the perfect place to start. He to some, is nothing less than genius. He took sampling and elevated it to a height that took its own art form and to this day his beats are still being released after he past away many years ago and with nights in London alone our fav being ‘Dilla Saved My Life’ his legacy is stronger than ever. This is part one of our Love Dilla sub series and part two will come after the summer.

Sit back, relax in hopefully some blazing sun, grab a nice drink or something to smoke ( menthol’s of course… ;) ) and enjoy the Dilla in our selection of his vast selection of beats and tracks.

  • Music Drops Part II
    By Jenai on March 18th, 2009 | 3 Comments3 Comments Comments

After a long arse week, yes LONG. Watch out for the What The Weekend Week post coming shortly as last week was just that, a long weekend. Here is today’s round up of music news  feature we like and your daily downloads of goodies in all genres and forms. P.S. Youtube sort out the videos :( you slags…!!

    cleavland-show-kanye

Kanye West to appear in new Family Guy spin off show ‘The Cleveland Show‘. Now if you didn’t already know of the shows forthcoming series, then shame on your mug but check it out by clicking the picture thur <<<<. But confirmation has come through that Kaneyzee himself will have a featured part in the show as ‘MC Kenny West’. Not sure how often he will appear in the show or what his character is like (hoping its not your average Hip Hop stereo type) but we do know Kanye is a huge fan of Family Guy and has recorded all his lines already. Watch this space kids (and non kids who like me adore Seth :P ).

In other news one of my current favs still (even if people think he is over saturated) Kid Cudi is going to or has quit the music game. He has said in his blog that he is tired of  ” THE DRAMA THAT COMES WITH IT IS MORE OVERWHELMING THAN THE SHIT I WAS DEALING WIT WHEN I WAS PISS POOR BROKE.” Now we hope he has just had a really bad day and he sees that he has only just started and is a very talented dude. But big up’s to him as he wishes to concentrate on his acting career (not that the trouble is any less than the music industry no?) and claims he will finish his debut album with Chip. What ever you do Mr Cudi, good luck.

And last but not least with a big sigh and a huge ‘finally’ said loud. The Performing Rights Society (or PRS) have announced today that live performances in the UK are now worth more than album/music sales. That means for people like us, if your actually talented and you make worth while music and not manufactured crap the majors have washed over us to for many years. You can actually make a nice living without even selling any music. So why not do the right thing, make music free or subscription based (as I’ve been saying so for years!) and get your arses on stage and show the world why we should listen and pay to go see your music live in the shiny, glamorous flesh. Read more here.

By Jenai on March 10th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Hi all, here is part one of the daily round ups. First being music.. you will find downloads, news, info and everything else in between we have found for the day all in one convenient post. This means we don’t waste lots of posts doing what most other blogs/magazine sites do just to fill the site up. We would rather concentrate on original content :)

    youtube-news-banner

Yup. Its all very serious round here in the UK for us Youtubers YouTube is blocking all premium music videos to UK users after failing to reach a new licensing agreement with the Performing Right Society (PRS).” We are talking about thousands of videos that will be unavailable to the UK. Now the short of this is Youtube feel PRS (who in Lemans terms control the license money involved in music) have asked for too much money. It also said ‘‘YouTube has also complained of a lack of transparency by the PRS, saying the organisation would not specify exactly which artists would be covered by any new deal.” Now Youtube are and have been under immense pressure to build its business model for some time now, this has only taken the company a step back. But all credit is due to Youtube for holding its ground… very interested to see how this all pans out. Source

  • Intelligent Hoodlum Vol One
    By Jenai on March 5th, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

Another Ego Thieves home grown exclusive compiled by myself Jenai. We feel here that allot of new music has lost its way, gotten confused and to be more blunt… uneducated. We created this podcast series to try to solve this problem and educate the masses in the art of beatmaking. Whether it be Hip Hop or Electro Pop we plan to open your mind and introduce you to the many instrumentals you don’t know about or simply forgotten. This month we delve into the vaults of classic Hip Hop in a long series of Hip Hop volumes.

Do you know who Craig G is? Ever heard of Slick Rick or Doug E Fresh? Then sit back, download and prepare to be educated. Look out for some of the kits used in these tracks as well as samples and see how many you can spot that have been re spat out by many a new era producer. Oh please don’t ask where i get all these instrumentals from, somethings are best left a secret ;)

Mixtapes oh how we adore thee. Big shame most of these you cant get over here, and if you can they are WAY over priced and getting them from America is just swag because its no longer $2 to the power of £1. Now that’s our excuse out the way for downloading them, check out this batch fresh from the CDJ. Just before you ask, yes we do love . Purely because most of the time they are better than most the shit albums that come out these days. Lil Wayne anyone?
