  • Turn Off The Radio – July 09
By Jenai on July 4th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

It was hot…! Not just because the venue was obviously feeling the credit crunch and decided to not just turn off the Radio but also the air conditioning and any possible fan they had. But that didn’t stop the vibes, but did create a ‘Turkish Bath’ of energy and music. Guest’s such as Ghostpoet, who i have never heard  before, was a breath of fresh air in a style of Hip Hop Ive not heard before…! You must check him out.

Maverick Sabre tore down the crowed with his soulful riffs and husky vocals that defy any Irish accent Ive ever known. Then our very own Random Impulse, in just setting up a band in two short weeks bought the house down! His hard vocals on intense Indie beats with a drop of blues, soul and a touch of something brand new that just captivated the whole venue. Along side Goldielocks and Grime superstar Dot Rotten this was one not to be missed. Even in the mist of the slightly dodgy sound system (that’s an understatement, but I’m trying to be nice so low me!). Here are the pics from the night taken by myself and you may see few of the Ego Thieves / Nuckin Fang family in there ;) None of me of course, some say I’m a phantom of the photo.

Big up all that attended and the Turn The Radio Off crew alongside Box Fresh clothing. Good times. Whoop!

Hit out Facebook for the rest of the pics and tag yourself.

  • Michael Jackson – A Tribute [Part One]
    By Jenai on June 26th, 2009 | 2 Comments2 Comments Comments

Here is part one to our tribute to the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. Ten of our fav tracks chosen by the team and blended as best i can (MJ Tracks just where not made to be DJ’d lol) in a 30 min mix. This part is our ‘Club’ tribute, bringing you all the bangers that we would want to hear on a night out and get our Moonwalk on. Still cant believe he is gone, very sad but this is how we choose to remember him. Not for his politics, just simply for his music. Once a legend always a legend.

Watch out for Part Two, where we go back to the past and bring you tunes from the Soul. Expect lots of Ben, Butterflies and not Being Alone.

  • R.I.P. Michael Jackson > Ego Thieves Salutes The King...
    By Jenai on June 25th, 2009 | 1 Comment1 Comment Comments

    michael jackson r.i.p

Unbelievable is the only word to even start to sum up this overwhelming piece of news. This will be a brief post, i will be doing a tribute mix tomoz with the team to celebrate exactly why this man is the legend he is. He carved modern music as we know it along side Quincy Jones and is the ultimate pop star of all time. For me and many other 80s babies we grew up on this man, he is a part of our heritage and our childhood. This is a very sad day and will affect the world in an immense way.

To all the people making jokes and doing the usual attention seeking behavior. It makes no diff to me what he did or didn’t do in his private life. When i grew up he was music defined and that’s how he will be remembered.

For now here is a wallpaper of him that i have, its amazing and captures everything about him in one pose in his hay day.

    Michael_Jackson_RIP_Wallpaper

    ** Added By I Am Kane **

Friday was a crazy day its not often you remember where you were when someone dies. I remember when Princess Diana passed and for some reason President Nixon. But Jacko passing was so not expected but i suppose death never is right?

For me there was two Mikes, the music man and the controversial man caught up in loads court cases and extravagance! All that needs to be said is the guy was more famous than Jesus and Coca Cola put together and the following weeks will show this. One of my favorite performance from Mike was this Motown 25 Celebration where he performed with the Jackson 5 for the first time since his new album launched. Man he owned that stage that night. The look on his face befre he drops billie jean, he knows hes about to “bun the rave” so to speak lol enjoy and big up mike music would not have been the same without him….

  • Michael Jackson Dead? In A Coma? Or Just In Hospital?
    By Jenai on June 25th, 2009 | 2 Comments2 Comments Comments

    michael jackson dead

Am sitting here with the misses (Reem Kanj) and my brother (Ty) and just in as much shock and bewilderment as everyone else. Is he dead? Because i dont trust TMZ for shit. Los Angeles Times are saying that he is in a coma and the BBC are saying they have no confirmations of anything. Hope its not true, if so its going to defiantly be one of those days you remember were you are when Michael Jackson died.

LA Times have now confirmed that he is dead! This is crazy and beyond words. :(

  • Guest Mix 003 – DJ Score Five
    By Jenai on June 19th, 2009 | 2 Comments2 Comments Comments

This is one of my fav mix series we have on EgoThieves. All the DJs are hand picked and we don’t just take any old mix. This is the third installment bought to you by another Rinse FM star DJ Score Five. Funky House, Grime and Bassline. This is a 30 min stomper of riddems! No track list on this one but trust me its bad and i know its nothing on what he can really do.

The good news is Score Five will be back for more. We have a new and for now the last series in our mix line up named ‘Axiomatic’ which is going to be a UK filled pile of Funky House, Fresh Grime and pinch of Bassline to keep you up-to date on the latest from subversive Britain. It will be once a month mix and of course expect the same high levels you already get from the rest of our line ups.

Make sure you catch Score Five each and every Weds on Rinse FM 1am- 3am.

    udates-june-09

Its that time again where i fill you in on whats new and whats to come on Ego Thieves ( and why everyone has been missing for like a week or more and lack of posts!).

    Out&About

urban-nerds-20th-june-2009-flyer-frontManic is the only word to sum up the last few weeks. Sorry myself and the team have been missing. Along side some bad times and emergencies we have also been very busy working on some secret projects.

Now even though this is suppose to be our ‘Summer’, i guess in England this is as good as it gets. But while the Sun is here we are taking advantage. Big up those who attended the Ego Thieves Picnic. Lots of drink, lots of erm… Jamaican roll ups, plenty of food and those crazy little choc muffins were serious tings!

The Urban Nerds have been all over the place as usual, so visit the website to find out more. But make sure you all come and hit us up at Urban Nerds & DMC World this Sat at 93 Feet East. See info below this post. Lots of tunes, lots of Sun (we will make it Sunny with our new Sun Skank.. you ain’t ready!) a big ass BBQ and the full crew in effect. Big up Sally, James, Mark, Rompa and the whole family. Make sure you come also to catch Ego Thieving Professor Green doing his Upper Clapton Dance.

While our bleak excuse for a Summer is here, Semothy Jones is still havin it up in Oz land. Ive been told work on the Operator Please album is coming along nicely and he is due back in July when we will have more information on the new Nuckin Fang and Ego Thieves company merge love fest.

Make sure you also check out the lovely girls that are Binary Kids who have just come off tour with Lady Sovereign and Man Like Me. See there blog post here and have a read on the antics they got up to. Also remember to hit up Random Impulse who is busy doing 1001 things with top heads in the game :) and last but not least Mr Maverick Sabre who is just pure genius. Lots more to come… so cha to your face.

    Downloading&NewFaces

MDMA Sessions Vol 2I’m sure by now you all know about the merge of Nuckin Fang and Ego Thieves. What this merge means right now is that we have moved the blog side of Nuckin Fang to Ego Thieves and the new Nuckin Fang website will be here very soon giving you more information on whats poppin. Also if you haven’t seen them around here are The Flow Nerds, who cover anything from Fashion to Music videos. They will also be out and about doing interviews for us and bringing you even more exclusive content. We also have I Am Kane, top badaman Electro DJ who now produces our Electzilla series and also posts bits and bobs around this bitch. Last but not least is Score 5 from the biggest radio station pun ze airwaves Rinse FM. More info on that in the should be post above.

Last but not least is Neelam. She is an up and coming journalist who will also be covering interviews and bussing out those reviews on the latest releases. She knows her stuff and check out her review on the Donaeo album a few posts after this. You can also visit her blog here for a few of her archived bits.

Downloads have been off the shabalaheezy! Make sure you visit our Mixes page where you can easily access our exclusive podcasts in one convenient place. We have had over 50k downloads in total since end of March (and thats all we have been able to trace!). That is nuts since most of the promo is word by mouth and industry based. Big up all those blogs who re post the mixes, all the forums that show love and even those crazy brehs who re up our mixes onto Torrents (even though they are already free in the first place lol…). We plan to keep up the pace and up the levels but if you have any requests or ideas hit us up on our contact page. Also props to all the DJs and producers who email in biggin the mixes up, keep sending those riddems you get me doh!

    TV&Tee’s

progreen-teeVision Thief TV is still coming… i still cant say much yet but what i can tell you is we are taking it very seriously and its not going to be your average hood video compilation (well so our make up artist and stylist say lol) and will push Web TV to a whole new height. We are very busy working on other stuff and don’t want this to be a half ass project so hold tite. What i can tell you is i been speaking to SB:TV and we may hook up to bring you some exclusive interviews on the biggest Dubstep stars around. More info after Urban Nerds.

I Ego Thief‘ apparel is still coming and still in many shapes and forms. You won’t be able to buy these, very much like a Blue Peter badge these will be given to the honored, chosen by our panel of Thieves. But fear not, we have a whole new range of Tees and Polos that you will be able to purchase (or blag depending what side of the bed i get out of that morning and what your apprentice skills are saying) for those summer days. They will be limited and will be exclusive and quality is our quantity so expect nothing less that the finest. None of your Fruit Of The Loom here my friends. If you come to Urban Nerds expect to see some floating about. Also watch out for the DJ specials.

Big love to all the supporters and there seems to be allot of you and growing everyday. Also the Jenai fan club lol,  all 88 of you (that email was jokes… you know who you are!  init brederin n ting).

  • Dubfluence aka Dubfluencial 5.5
    By Jenai on June 5th, 2009 | 4 Comments4 Comments Comments

Dubstep has many a face. Some say that our Dubfluencial is more Wobble than Bass and the forums alight with talk of what fits where and who listens to what. Here, we are anti class. I guess you could call us Subversive. I just don’t want to see what happen to UK Garage happen to Dubstep, were the sub genres ended up splitting the scene which eventually became its ultimate downfall.

Of course there’s the hard bass, soulful and Reggae dub and everything else in between. Dubfluencial caters more for the harder bass fiend of course. But that doesn’t mean we do not listen to or appreciate the deeper side of Dubstep. So hence here is our special edition which we will drop every 5 episodes.

Dubfluence aka Dubfluencial 5.5 is exactly that. Lots of deep vibes, sensual bass and soulful intentions. Kick back and relax (maybe smoke some of that peng… that’s if you do that sort of thing of course! Dont do drugs and all that :P ) and enjoy the other side of Dubstep. Remember this is NOT Dubfluencial and is NOT full of hard tunes! So no moaning saying ‘i thought this was the new Dubfluencial reh reh’ those emails will be published in a section of shame.

(Oh and for those who want to know and already asking lol, Dubfluencial is inspired by bass and Dubfluence is influenced by soul….. simple init).

  • Dubfluencial V – An Ego Fantasy
    By Jenai on June 2nd, 2009 | 6 Comments6 Comments Comments

I just cant believe we are onto Vol 5 already! With over 20k downloads combined (thats a loose estimate too!), DJs and Producers all singing its praise and emails nearly every day demanding i get back to DJing its all very overwhelming. Thanks to all and watch this space… ;)

Vol 5 or V if you know your Roman Numerals, is of course paying homage to one of the greatest game series of all time Final Fantasy. Myself and most at Ego Thieves are HUGE fans! With Advent Children coming to Blue Ray, a Final 13 Demo out and news that Final 7 will be added to the PSN store very soon it was only right to create a cover to suit. With a special intro I’m sure many fans will recognise its not to be missed. I also believe that if Dubstep existed in the world of Final Fantasy, Midgar would be skanking out to hard bass until the Turks came home.

Remember to support the artists! Buying their tracks, hitting the events and more. Its what keeps the scene alive!
